- A three day rock festival in Leigh, Lancashire, UK featuring bands from Liverpool and Manchester, begins (see also 26 August 1979 and 27 August 1979). The festival was organised by Joan Miller who wanted to raise money for a drug addiction drop-in centre. Sadly, the festival was poorly attended (as allegedly poorly advertised) although the festival line-up remains unique and somewhat legendary.
