  • British punk rock group Sex Pistols appear on Top of the Pops for the first time as their single Pretty Vacant has entered the charts at no.7. The weekly music programme based on the UK charts shows a video of the group performing the song live. Pretty Vacant is the only song in the Top 20 to be featured on the show (save for Fanfare for the Common Man in fade out), a sign of a somewhat stagnating chart.
